The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to retake Nasarawa State in the 2027 governorship election, declaring that the state remains a PDP state.
The national deputy chairman (North) of the party, Barr. Yusuf Nya Agirikwe, made the vow in Lafia on Saturday during the campaign flag-off of its consensus candidate, Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu.
“We have been hearing from far that Nasarawa State is PDP. I have come to establish it myself today that PDP has the mandate of the people to rule them in this state,” Agirikwe declared as supporters chanted “PDP! Power to the people!”
He said the party could only actualise the mandate if supporters vote and defend their votes.
“We can only actualize this if you will be able to vote and defend your votes. Are you going to do it?” he asked.
Agirikwe brought greetings from the PDP national chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the party’s national leader, FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, who he said were absent due to national engagements.
He said what he saw in Lafia was proof that Nasarawa people are behind Wike and endorse his leadership.
“From today, go and tell your friends that PDP is the winning party. Go out and bring your votes,” he charged.
Speaking at the occasion, the party’s governorship candidate, Ombugadu thanked supporters for their past sacrifice and electoral victory, he urged them to protect their vote to secure a government that truly represents the people and restores security for farmers.
He said Nasarawa is rich in gold, lithium, and wolframite and should not be poor, alleging the wealth had benefited only a few.
He promised a government where everyone matters, with drugs in hospitals for women and children and safety for farmers.
