WestyBaba joins 93.5 Area FM as lead voice, appointed GM, head of radio at Cardinal Broadcasting

Veteran broadcaster, entertainer and actor Adesege Adeniji, popularly known as WestyBaba, has joined 93.5 AREA FM as its lead on-air personality as the new Lagos radio station prepares to officially hit the airwaves from October 1, 2026.

In an expanded leadership role, WestyBaba also joins Cardinal Broadcasting Limited, operators of City FM and 93.5 AREA FM, as General Manager, Head of Radio, working under the leadership of the company’s Group Managing Director, Lady Doja Allen. The appointment brings his extensive broadcasting and entertainment experience into the management structure of Cardinal Broadcasting as the company enters a new phase of expansion with its second radio brand.

A familiar voice to Lagos audiences, WestyBaba has built a career spanning radio, television, comedy, entertainment production and film. His broadcasting journey has taken him through stations including Radio Continental/Max FM, UFM and City FM, where his distinctive delivery, humour and understanding of Lagos life helped establish him as a recognisable on-air personality.

At AREA FM, WestyBaba will be at the forefront of the station’s on-air identity, leading a new generation of presenters and personalities assembled to deliver radio rooted in the language, lifestyle and experiences of Lagos. His personality, humour and ability to connect naturally with audiences are expected to play a central role in establishing the sound and character of the new station.

Speaking on the appointment, Lady Doja Allen described WestyBaba’s arrival as an important part of the vision for AREA FM.

“Area FM has been created to have its own personality, attitude and connection with Lagos, and WestyBaba represents so much of that energy. He understands radio, he understands entertainment and, importantly, he understands Lagos. Having him lead our on-air team while also taking on the wider responsibility of GM, Head of Radio at Cardinal Broadcasting gives us someone who understands both the creative and operational sides of the business. We are excited about what he and the entire team will build.”

Beyond broadcasting, WestyBaba has developed a strong presence as an entertainer and content creator, using comedy, skits and character-driven storytelling to connect with audiences. He has also worked behind the scenes in entertainment production, including with Afrotainment Productions, and has anchored major branded entertainment events.

His creative career has also extended to Nollywood, with appearances in productions including Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper, Malaika, Makemation, Finding Messiah and the epic drama Ireke, where he played the character Johnson.

Reacting to his new role, WestyBaba said the move represents an opportunity to bring together the different sides of his career while helping build a fresh radio experience for Lagos.

With the launch of 93.5 Area FM, Cardinal Broadcasting Limited expands its radio portfolio alongside City FM, with the two stations positioned as distinct brands serving different audience experiences.
