“When You Pamper Children, They Don’t Come Out To Be Anything” – Patience Ozokwor Warns Parents

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has advised parents against over-pampering their children, warning that making life too comfortable for them could affect their future.

Speaking about parenting, wealth and inheritance, the actress said parents who try to prevent their children from experiencing any hardship may end up doing more harm than good.

“One way when you say, I don’t want my children to suffer what I suffered when I was growing up You see, that’s the best way to destroy your children.”

Mama G clarified that parents should not deliberately subject their children to suffering but should allow them to experience challenges and understand the process of achieving success.

“I’m not saying allow them to suffer, what I’m saying is allow them to struggle. Go through the process.”

According to her, children who grow up surrounded by family wealth without understanding the sacrifices behind it could become entitled and eventually fight over their parents’ properties.

“When you keep the things that you have and let them know that, ‘You go get yours, this is mine.’”

She further stressed the importance of teaching children the value of hard work and allowing them to experience some difficulties that would make them appreciate what they have.

“But when you pamper them, they don’t come out to be anything.”

The actress also shared how she handled the issue with her own son, revealing that she made it clear that he would have to build his own life rather than depend entirely on her wealth.

“I told my son, My house isn’t yours, go and work for your own.”

Mama G maintained that children from wealthy families can still become successful and even surpass their parents when they are properly trained and taught that success requires effort and responsibility.
