“Who Gave Him The Audacity To Speak Against The Gov?” – Ebonyi Lawmaker Demands EFCC Probe Of Cubana Chief Priest

  • Member of the House of Representatives, Chinedu Ogah, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, over alleged money laundering.
  • His call followed Cubana Chief Priest’s criticism of Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru and demand that the governor step down.

Member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Chinedu Ogah, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, over alleged money laundering.

Ogah made the call after Cubana Chief Priest criticised Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, accusing his administration of failing to deliver enough development to the state and calling on him to step down.

Reacting to the socialite’s remarks, Ogah questioned his background and source of income while alleging that he was part of those attempting to discredit President Bola Tinubu’s support in the South-East.

He said, “Who is Cubana Chief Priest? What does he do for a living? Who gave him the audacity to speak against the Ebonyi State Governor? He is part of those discrediting President Tinubu’s support in the South-East. Is it about drinking?”

The lawmaker also accused Cubana Chief Priest of money laundering and urged the EFCC to investigate the allegation.

Cubana Chief Priest had earlier questioned how Nwifuru could spend almost three years in office without having major projects commissioned by the President or other state governors. He also claimed Ebonyi was lagging behind other South-Eastern states in development and criticised the state’s political leadership.

The controversy comes amid heightened political tensions in Ebonyi ahead of the 2027 elections. The state government has also accused opposition figures and other critics of running what it described as a campaign of calumny against Nwifuru.

As of the latest reports, there has been no public response from the EFCC regarding Ogah’s call.
