Ex-AKSU SUG President D!es At NYSC Enugu Camp Amid Allegations Of Fake Drugs, Delayed Treatment

• The immediate past Students’ Union Government president of Akwa Ibom State University, Etimbuk Daniel, has reportedly died at an NYSC orientation camp in Enugu State after complaining of a headache.
• The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for an investigation into allegations that he received fake medication and was unable to access hospital treatment in time.

The immediate past Students’ Union Government (SUG) president of Akwa Ibom State University, Comrade Etimbuk Daniel, has reportedly died at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Enugu State.

According to a statement by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, Daniel complained of a headache while participating in the orientation exercise and received medication at the camp.

His condition reportedly worsened after taking the medication, prompting him to request a transfer to a hospital for further treatment. However, the approval allegedly came too late, and he died before he could receive further medical attention.

Afeez further claimed that a doctor later identified the medication administered to Daniel as fake, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death.

NANS has called for a thorough investigation to establish what happened, determine the circumstances that led to Daniel’s death and ensure accountability. The allegations concerning the medication and the reported delay in medical attention have not been independently verified.

Daniel’s reported death has sparked grief and outrage on social media, with Nigerians questioning the handling of medical emergencies at NYSC orientation camps and expressing concern over the circulation of counterfeit drugs.

Several users have also called for improved medical care for corps members, while others have expressed condolences to his family and the Akwa Ibom State University community.
