Gov Idris reaffirms commitment to ending security challenges in sakaba, zuru emirate

He noted that no state in Nigeria was completely free from security challenges, adding that his administration had nevertheless made significant sacrifices and investments to confront insecurity across Kebbi State.
The governor said security personnel and vigilantes had paid the ultimate price in the fight against criminal elements, noting that several officers had been killed while confronting criminals and protecting communities.
He therefore appealed to the people to support security agencies, pray for peace and avoid actions or statements capable of creating fear or encouraging criminals.

He said the facilities would accommodate a substantial number of security personnel, while the state government would provide operational vehicles and other necessary support to enhance their capacity.
He further explained that the security challenge required collaboration between the Federal, State and Local Governments, stressing that the state government would continue to complement federal efforts wherever necessary.
“Where the Federal Government’s reach falls short, we will step in on behalf of everyone so that our people can sleep with both eyes closed and farmers can return to their fields without fear,” he said.
The governor also appealed to political actors to refrain from politicising security challenges, saying the safety of the people should be treated as a collective responsibility.
He urged members of all political parties and all citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding, assuring that the government would follow due process and the rule of law in dealing with anyone found to have violated the law.
Gov. Idris pledged more relief assistance for the IDPs in the area.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Mai Kasuwa Dangoje, commended Gov. Idris for visiting Sakaba to sympathise with the people over the recent attacks. He said the security challenge in the area predated the present administration, recalling that the area had enjoyed nearly three years of relative peace under Governor Idris before the recent resurgence.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, said the governor had taken immediate steps to address the crisis, including directing the deployment of security personnel and the establishment of a Forward Operating Base in the affected area.
He said the government had remained committed to supporting security agencies, while urging the people to unite against insecurity and reject attempts to politicise the situation.
The commissioner urged residents in the area to disregard what he described as political propaganda by the ADC governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami, SAN, on the security situation in the state.
He said Malami had not contributed meaningfully to efforts to address insecurity, but had instead continued to make what he described as inflammatory statements capable of heightening public tension and creating unnecessary fear among residents.
The Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Sanusi Mikailu Sami, commended Governor Idris for what he described as his proactive approach to security across Sakaba and the entire Zuru Emirate.
He expressed appreciation for the governor’s efforts and prayed for the restoration of lasting peace, while the Chairman of Sakaba Local Government Area, Alhaji Dauda Muhammad Sakaba, also appreciated the governor’s visit and continued support, describing security as a collective responsibility.
