“If Fuel Drops To ₦600, I’ll Withdraw From Atiku And Campaign For Tinubu” – Amaechi

- African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has said he would withdraw from Atiku Abubakar’s ticket and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for ₦600 per litre.
- Amaechi made the conditional pledge during a Channels Television interview while questioning Tinubu’s claim that Nigeria had entered an “age of prosperity.”
African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has said he would withdraw from Atiku Abubakar’s ticket and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for ₦600 per litre.
Amaechi made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, October 2, 2026, while reacting to Tinubu’s Independence Day address and the President’s description of Nigeria as entering an “age of prosperity.”
The former Rivers State governor questioned whether Nigerians were already experiencing the economic improvement described by the President, asking whether the prices of transportation and other essential items had actually fallen.
“Has any price come down, has anything changed?” Amaechi asked.
He then pointed to the price of petrol as a measure of the administration’s economic performance, saying he would personally visit a filling station to verify the price.
“I will go tomorrow morning to the petrol station to buy fuel, I will go myself, if fuel has come down to 600, I will campaign for President Tinubu,” he said.
Amaechi further challenged those who doubted him to accompany him with a camera, insisting that he would withdraw as Atiku’s running mate and campaign for Tinubu if petrol had fallen to ₦600 per litre.
“If you doubt me, come with your camera to my house, and I will go to the filling station and buy fuel, and I, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi will withdraw as a vice presidential candidate of Atiku and campaign for President Tinubu, if it has come down,” he said.
