KWIRS: Salary figures online are ‘incomplete’, staff get bonuses, leave allowance

The Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has clarified that the salary figures shared on social media do not show everything its workers earn.

Management said it had noticed public talk about staff pay. It said some people are also trying to use unverified internal office messages for political ends. KWIRS responded in a statement signed on Tuesday.

What staff receive besides salary

KWIRS said the figures in circulation are isolated. In its view, they leave out other payments made under approved policies and arrangements.

It listed three items. The first is bonuses. These include annual, festive and situational bonuses, which it said are tied to revenue targets reached and to staff performance.

Staff also get situational economic palliatives from time to time. These are payments meant to ease the pain of high living costs.

The second item is an annual leave allowance. KWIRS said this is paid once a year, separately from monthly pay.

The third is staff welfare and operational support. KWIRS said these are structured measures to support workers and their professional growth throughout their careers.

Management said judging pay by selected salary figures alone gives an incomplete picture. The statement gives no amounts for bonuses or allowances. It does not say which salary figures are being shared online.

Appeal to the public

KWIRS asked the public and taxpayers to ignore unverified and misleading accounts. It asked people to check information before sharing it. It also asked them to rely on official KWIRS communications for facts about its work and staff policies.

Management asked everyone to stop politicising internal office matters. It said claims that could damage harmony inside the agency or public trust should not be spread.

On welfare, management said it will keep improving policies and work processes that support staff well-being and performance. It said this will be done within government-approved funds and rules.

The agency also said it is one of the government institutions with the most requests for recruitment. Management called this proof of its care for staff welfare. The statement gives no figures to back that claim.

WHAT READERS SHOULD KNOW

KWIRS is the Kwara State Government‘s revenue agency. Its stated job is to raise money for the state’s strategic development, and it says it is not a political body.

The agency has not denied that the salary figures exist. It says they are only part of the pay picture, and it has not released a full breakdown of what staff earn.

Every claim about bonuses, palliatives, leave allowance and welfare support comes from KWIRS management alone.
