“Others Have Done 8 Years, Why Should Igbos Do Just 4?”- David Umahi Tackles Peter Obi

- Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, challenges Peter Obi’s proposal for the South-East to produce Nigeria’s president for a single four-year term.
- Umahi questions the consensus within the South-East regarding this arrangement.
- He expresses concern that the South-East would be restricted to only four years, while other regions have had eight years in power.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has questioned Peter Obi’s position on the South-East producing Nigeria’s president for a single four-year term, asking who from the region agreed to the arrangement.
Umahi raised concerns over the idea, arguing that other regions have had the opportunity to occupy the presidency for eight years, while the South-East would potentially be limited to four years under the proposal attributed to Obi.
Speaking on the issue, the minister asked: “Peter Obi decided Igbos should do just 4 years while others have done 8 years. Who in the South East reached that agreement with him?”
His remarks have brought renewed attention to discussions surrounding the South-East’s quest for the presidency and the question of how long the region should hold the office if given the opportunity.
