Refinery IPO: Dangote pledges priority allocation for investors applying for N50,000 or less

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has pledged to prioritise investors applying for N50,000 or less in the Dangote Refinery initial public offering (IPO).

Dangote made the pledge during the final leg of the refinery’s nationwide IPO roadshow in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The event brought together investors, financial market experts and business leaders to discuss the offering and its potential impact on Nigeria’s economy.

“We will prioritise people with 50,000 and below,” Dangote said, according to a statement issued by the company on Wednesday.

He said the IPO would give Nigerians an opportunity to become shareholders in the refinery, which he described as a major industrial project built on Nigerian soil.

According to Dangote, international and African investors had already committed substantial capital to the refinery, but the public offering would allow Nigerians to participate directly in its ownership.

“African investors have invested in this refinery. Now it is time for Nigerians to invest in themselves and participate in a project that is creating value, jobs and opportunities for generations to come,” he said.

Dangote also encouraged prospective investors to adopt a long-term investment perspective, noting that participation in the IPO could create opportunities for wealth creation and portfolio diversification.

He added that broader participation in the capital market would deepen financial literacy, promote a savings and investment culture, and help Nigerians understand how businesses create value and contribute to economic growth.

Rewane, Yusuf Highlight Economic Benefits
Speaking at the event, economist Bismarck Rewane highlighted the economic potential of the South-South region, stressing the need to translate its natural resource endowment into sustainable prosperity, infrastructure development and improved living standards.

Rewane also noted that the IPO could help deepen Nigeria’s capital market by encouraging more citizens to participate actively in wealth creation.

Similarly, financial expert Muda Yusuf outlined the refinery’s potential contributions to economic diversification, domestic value addition, energy security, capital formation and employment generation.

Yusuf said the refinery’s impact extended beyond petroleum processing to sectors such as petrochemicals, packaging, manufacturing, logistics and other downstream industries.

He also emphasised the importance of policy consistency, regulatory stability and sustained stakeholder engagement in maintaining investor confidence and attracting long-term investment into Nigeria’s industrial sector.

Describing the refinery as an example of domestic value addition, Yusuf noted that its local content and industrial linkages could strengthen its contribution to the Nigerian economy.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of sound monetary policy, affordable financing and a predictable business environment in supporting investment-led growth and industrial expansion.

Paul Usoro Welcomes South-South Participation
Business leader Paul Usoro expressed satisfaction with the participation of investors from the South-South region, urging them to take advantage of the public offering.

“My joy is to see the South-South well represented,” Usoro said.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that investors from the region were adequately represented in the refinery’s ownership.

The Port Harcourt engagement marked the final stop of the nationwide roadshow organised to raise awareness of the IPO and encourage broader Nigerian participation in the refinery’s ownership.

The proposed priority allocation for applications of N50,000 or less is intended to encourage smaller investors to participate in the offering, although prospective shareholders should review the official IPO terms for the applicable eligibility requirements and allocation procedures.
