Shettima attacks Peter Obi, says NDC candidate has nothing to offer beyond statistics

Vice President Kashim Shettima has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, claiming that he has little to offer Nigerians beyond quoting statistics.

Shettima made the remarks while speaking at an event in Abuja on Monday, where he defended the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The Vice President said the Tinubu-led government was taking difficult but necessary decisions to revive the economy, while accusing Obi of failing to present concrete solutions to the country’s challenges.

However, Shettima said he respected Obi for openly stating that he would not restore the petrol subsidy if elected president.

“I respect Peter Obi for having the courage to say he’s not going to restore the petrol subsidy, but beyond spouting some statistics, Mr Peter Obi has absolutely nothing to offer,” he said.

Shettima’s comments have generated reactions on social media, with supporters of Obi, popularly known as Obidients, defending the former Anambra State governor and criticising the Vice President’s remarks.

The exchange comes as political figures begin intensifying their public engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, with economic policy, petrol pricing and the cost of living expected to remain key issues in political debate.
