UPDATED: FRSC identifies dead Corps member in Ibadan crash as Oluwatosin Abidakun

The female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who died in a collision involving a motorcycle and an articulated truck near Agodi Gardens in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been identified as Oluwatosin Abidakun, days after she resumed her primary assignment at the Oyo State House of Assembly.
New Daily Prime had earlier reported that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, confirmed the fatal crash on Monday, October 12, 2026, but could not immediately establish the deceased’s identity or Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).
The development provides an answer to one of the major questions surrounding the incident, although the circumstances that led to the collision are still being investigated.
Abidakun was reportedly returning home from work with another corps member when the trailer struck the motorcycle conveying them around Agodi Gardens, behind the Oyo State Government Secretariat, in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Her colleague survived the crash but sustained a leg injury and was taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for medical treatment. The FRSC had earlier confirmed the survivor’s injury and the evacuation of both victims to medical facilities.
According to the accounts provided by eyewitnesses, the trailer had allegedly been involved in several collisions around the Sango area before reaching Agodi Gardens where it struck the motorcycle.
One witness claimed the driver attempted to flee after the earlier incidents. However, the account has not been independently verified, and authorities have yet to publicly establish the circumstances of the reported collisions.
There was also no official confirmation, as of the latest reports, that the truck driver had been arrested.

The death has drawn a reaction from the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, who expressed sadness over the loss of the corps member, particularly because she had only recently begun her national service.
Ogundoyin extended his condolences to Abidakun’s family, friends, colleagues and fellow corps members. He also expressed concern for the injured survivor and wished them a speedy recovery.
Abidakun’s death has cut short her national service barely days after she resumed at the state legislature, leaving her loved ones and colleagues to mourn a young life lost in a road crash.
While the victim’s identity and workplace have now emerged, important questions remain about what caused the collision and whether the alleged earlier incidents involving the trailer are connected to the fatal crash.
The findings of the relevant authorities will be crucial in establishing the sequence of events and determining whether any party should be held accountable.
