“Your Husband’s Money Is Not Your Money”- Lady Warns Women Against Depending On Wealthy Husbands

A Nigerian lady has advised women to remain financially independent after marriage, warning against abandoning their careers or businesses simply because their husbands are wealthy.

The lady shared the advice in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, where she spoke about the importance of having a personal source of income and savings, regardless of a husband’s financial status.

According to her, a man’s wealth does not automatically translate into financial security for his wife, as the circumstances of a marriage could change at any time.

Using her own experience to illustrate her point, she explained that a woman who enjoys a luxurious lifestyle while married to a wealthy man could find herself starting over if the marriage ends.

In her words, she said:

“Marriage made me to understand that your husband’s money is not your money. Let’s stop deceiving ourselves. Let me give you an instance.

If you marry a very wealthy man today, aside from all the money that he’s giving you, all the gifts he’s giving you and everything, if anything happens to your marriage today, you’re going back to your father’s house with just your bag. That mansion na him own. That car na him own.”

She also questioned the decision of some women to give up their jobs and businesses after marrying financially comfortable men.

The lady stressed that being married to a wealthy man should not be an excuse for a woman to stop pursuing her personal ambitions or building her financial future.

She further encouraged women to continue working, growing their businesses and setting money aside, regardless of how much their husbands earn.

“So don’t be deceived, though oo. As you are in that marriage, work and save. If not, you end up like me,” she added.

Her remarks have sparked conversations about financial independence in marriage, with her message highlighting the importance of having personal savings and a reliable source of income, even when a woman enjoys financial comfort in her relationship.
