Davido expresses fear over Nigeria’s insecurity, laments bad governance

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed concern over bad governance, injustice and the prolonged suffering of Nigerians.
The singer shared his views during an episode of the I Wanna Talk podcast, where he spoke candidly about Nigeria’s political situation and the challenges facing its citizens.
During the conversation, Davido recalled the 2020 EndSARS protests, saying he once believed the demonstrations would bring lasting change to the country.
According to him, the protests gave many Nigerians hope that the country was ready for a new direction. However, he expressed disappointment that the expected change did not happen.
He suggested that Nigerians had quickly returned to their usual ways after the protests, despite the widespread calls for accountability and better leadership.
The singer also criticised the attitude of some individuals who presented themselves as champions of the people’s interests but appeared to change after gaining political power.
He lamented that people who once spoke strongly against injustice and poor leadership often behaved differently when they found themselves in positions of authority.
Davido’s comments reflected his disappointment with what he considered a recurring pattern in Nigeria’s political system, where promises of change did not always translate into meaningful improvements for ordinary citizens.
Beyond governance, the award-winning singer also spoke about his personal fears despite his privileged background and influence.
He explained that wealth, fame and connections had not completely removed his concerns about personal safety in Nigeria.
Davido noted that, despite coming from an influential family and enjoying considerable public recognition, he still feared losing his life.
His remarks highlighted the concerns surrounding insecurity and the uncertainty experienced by many Nigerians.
The singer’s comments also drew attention to the wider challenges facing the country, including public accountability, citizens’ safety and the need for responsible leadership.
The EndSARS protests, which took place in October 2020, began as demonstrations against police brutality, particularly the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
However, the movement later expanded into wider demands for police reform, justice and improved governance.
Thousands of young Nigerians participated in demonstrations across the country, while others supported the movement through social media campaigns and international protests.
Although the demonstrations brought national and international attention to police brutality, concerns about accountability, security and governance continued to feature in public discussions.
Davido’s latest comments added his voice to the ongoing conversation about the country’s future and the expectations of its citizens.
