Tinubu has shown he cares about Nigerian workers with N70000 allowance – Oshiomhole

  • Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying its approval of an additional ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance for workers demonstrates concern for their welfare.
  • His remarks have attracted mixed reactions, with some Nigerians questioning the intervention and others demanding that the promised payment be made.

Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that the government has demonstrated concern for Nigerian workers through its approval of an additional ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance.

Oshiomhole made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, November 5, 2026, where he argued that the additional payment would make a significant difference to low-income earners.

Using the example of a worker earning ₦70,000, the senator explained that receiving an additional ₦70,000 would double the person’s earnings.

He said, “If a man who was on seventy thousand, now is given seventy thousand additional, that makes it one hundred and forty thousand for him, it’s a hundred per cent increase.”

He further stressed the importance of appreciating what relatively small amounts mean to low-income Nigerians, saying, “if you know what ten thousand means for the real masses, you will appreciate that.”

Oshiomhole maintained that the intervention reflected the President’s concern for workers, adding, “Tinubu has shown that he cares.”

The Federal Government’s approved ₦70,000 transport allowance is scheduled to run for six months, beginning in November 2026. It is a temporary transport intervention rather than a permanent salary increase.

His comments have since generated reactions online, with several Nigerians questioning the government’s decision and demanding to know when the allowance would reach workers.
