One year anniversary: Osun govt, APC trade words over Adeleke’s performance, absence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and the state government, yesterday, disagreed over the performance of the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration in the last one year.

The opposition party also disagreed with Adeleke on his trip to Europe and Asia, accusing him of fleeing abroad to seek medical attention and also avoid facing the people of the state to explain how his government allegedly misappropriated N130 billion revenue the state government allegedly got since November 27, 2022.

While the APC, in a statement by its Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, contended that Adeleke wreaked more havoc on the state in the last one year, Adeleke said that his administration had “surpassed the yearly good governance target it set while assuming office.”

Also, the APC in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, accused Adeleke of lying about his whereabouts, saying that the governor did not embark on a short working visit to Europe and Asia where he would finalise partnership deals with investors and development partners as claimed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, but rather, Adeleke jetted off to treat his ailment and also avoid presenting his stewardship.

“Governor Adeleke has been holidaying in America in the last two weeks, shortly after the debilitating defeat of his party in Kogi State.

“It was reliably gathered that a recorded statement from the governor would be played for the people of the state in lieu of his physical presence today (Monday).

“We know very well that Governor Adeleke has absconded from the state so he would not be able to give due account of his stewardship to the people of the state,” Lawal alleged.

However, in a statement, Rasheed said Adeleke embarked on vacation and he would seize the opportunity to finalise partnership deals with potential investors and development partners who had earlier visited Osun State.

He said: “As against the claim by the APC that the current administration performed woefully, the governor, in an interview granted to some journalists before embarking on a working vacation, said he had benchmarks and deliverables according to each sector.”

“The opposition APC is still nursing the wounds of their electoral defeat. So, the party is ashamed to see the positive changes we are recording in the state. Our achievements are there for all to see.”
