• Group cautions parties against imposition of candidates
A Governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, yesterday, appealed to the party leaders and delegates to reject aspirants with no track records of development in order not to nominate a mediocre as the party’s candidate for the September 21 governorship poll in Edo State.
Ighodalo made the remark while addressing PDP leaders and members in Oredo Local Council, as part of his ongoing statewide tour in Benin City, the Edo State Capital. The governorship aspirant, who appealed to the people of Oredo to support and nominate him, said he has the blueprint to develop the state.
He further advised the people to reject aspirants with no track records of development in order not to nominate a mediocre as the party candidate for the September 21 governorship poll.
MEANWHILE, A socio-political group, Concerned Edo Citizens Forum (CECF), yesterday, called on political parties, ahead of the Edo governorship election, to conduct free, fair and credible primaries that will be acceptable to all. eschewing imposition of candidates in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by the convener of CECF, Roy Oribhabor. Oribhabor noted that imposition of candidates would not be accommodated, adding that Edo people must be allowed to choose who governs them without intimidation.
