Arsenal icon Patrick Vieira has encouraged the Gunners to reflect on their current position in the season, especially in light of their recent struggles.
His remarks came after Manchester City displaced Mikel Arteta and his team from the top of the Premier League standings, following a 1-0 victory over Burnley on April 22.
The Gunners have been a dominant force for the majority of the season, having held the top position in the league for over 200 days.
They have also advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and have a significant opportunity to secure a double.
Nevertheless, Arsenal has faced challenges in recent weeks, suffering defeats in four of their last six matches across all competitions.
This includes two losses to Manchester City during this stretch, one of which was in the EFL Cup final, and an elimination from the FA Cup quarter-finals at the hands of Southampton.
After witnessing his former team lose their lead in the standings, Vieira expressed to the club’s official website (via Daily Mirror), “I think I just want them to remind themselves where they are and why they are where they are.
“Meaning that they are at the top of the league, they are in the semi-final of the Champions League, and you can’t reach that level with no quality, with no team spirit and with no togetherness.
“It’s about winning games, they know how to do it because they’ve been doing it for the last seven, eight months. When we are in the last sprint, I will say it, it’s important not to forget the quality that brings them where they are today because that will help them to win.”
Arsenal currently sits second in the table with 70 points from 33 matches, trailing Manchester City on goal difference, with both teams having a goal difference of 37. The Gunners are striving to clinch their first Premier League title in 22 years.
