A disturbing video has surfaced showing the moment former Mexican beauty queen, Carolina Flores Gomez, was allegedly shot dead by her mother-in-law in front of her baby in Mexico City.
The 27-year-old, who won Miss Teen Universe Baja California in 2017, was at her home in the upscale Polanco neighbourhood on April 15 when the incident occurred, according to footage obtained by Spanish-language outlet Reforma.
In the clip, Gomez dressed in a white patterned robe is seen walking through her living room while her mother-in-law, identified as Erika Herrera, follows closely behind her. Moments later, she is reportedly shot inside the residence.
Her husband, Alejandro Gomez, later enters the scene carrying their infant child.
Confused, he is heard asking in Spanish, “What happened?” while another voice responds in shock, “What did you do? Are you crazy?” Herrera then replies, “Nothing… she made me angry.”
The husband reacts angrily, saying, “She is my family,” to which his mother allegedly responds, “You belong to me, and she took you away.”
Authorities in Mexico City have launched an investigation into the killing, though no charges have been formally announced. Police have, however, identified Herrera as the main suspect. Officials are also reportedly examining why the incident was not reported immediately.
The victim’s mother, Reyna Gomez Molina, told Univision News that the delay in reporting may have been linked to concerns about the couple’s baby, explaining that the family feared the child could be placed in foster care.
