About four decades ago, I suddenly began to lose my hearing. One of my daughters, who is a medical doctor, examined my ear. As she looked inside with her light, she exclaimed, “Oh God!” — and when a doctor reacts like that, you know something is wrong.
She said, “Daddy, there’s a growth in your ear, and it looks very serious. It’s in a delicate place. We may need to operate urgently.”
I simply smiled.
She insisted, “Daddy, this is not a joking matter.”
But I replied calmly, “Easy, my dear… a growth in my ear?”
A few days later, she returned to examine me again. She looked inside and once more said, “Oh God!”
I asked, “What is it this time?”
She said, “The growth has disappeared.”
Then I ask you: how many of you will refuse sickness, disease, and anything that is not of God? How many will stand your ground and reject what is ugly?
