The White House has said it will not engage in discussions with Iran through the media.
Assistant White House Press Secretary Olivia Wales, in a statement shared by CBS News, said, “These are sensitive diplomatic discussions, and the US will not negotiate through the press.”
She added: “As the President has said, the United States holds the cards and will only make a deal that puts the American people first, never allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”
The United States and its ally Israel are pressing Iran to halt uranium enrichment, accusing it of attempting to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies the allegation.
President Donald Trump has also said he wants Iran’s enriched uranium, which he has described as “nuclear dust” on social media, even after previously claiming US strikes had destroyed Iran’s nuclear capability during a 12-day conflict.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reports that current diplomatic efforts will not include discussions on the nuclear issue.
