The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has urged members of the party not to disappoint Nigerians who are seeking a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mark made the appeal on Saturday during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
The former Senate President said the ADC must position itself as a strong political platform capable of addressing the country’s worsening security and economic challenges.
According to him, many Nigerians have lost confidence in the current political landscape and are looking for a party that can offer effective leadership and solutions to the nation’s problems.
“Many citizens are increasingly searching for a credible political platform. The ADC must not fail them,” Mark said.
He expressed concern over the persistent insecurity across the country, noting that many communities have been displaced while farmers and business owners continue to suffer the consequences of violent attacks and instability.
“Nigeria today faces profound challenges. Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across many parts of our country. Communities are displaced, farmers are unable to cultivate their lands freely, businesses struggle under difficult economic conditions, and millions of families face hardship and uncertainty,” he stated.
Mark also decried the economic hardship facing Nigerians, citing rising living costs, unemployment, declining purchasing power and growing social discontent.
“Equally troubling is the growing economic burden on ordinary Nigerians. Rising cost of living, unemployment, declining purchasing power and social discontent demand urgent and sincere attention from those entrusted with governance,” he said.
Despite the prevailing challenges, Mark maintained that the ADC would not seek to exploit the suffering of Nigerians for political gain.
“As a responsible opposition party, the ADC does not celebrate the difficulties confronting our nation, nor do we seek political advantage from the pain of our people. Rather, we stand firmly in support of every sincere effort aimed at restoring peace, security, economic stability and national cohesion,” he added.
The ADC chairman called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts to improve security and the welfare of citizens.
He also stressed the need for unity within the party, warning members against allowing personal ambitions to undermine the collective interest of the ADC.
“Our strength lies not in division but in unity.
“We must resist every tendency capable of weakening our collective resolve. Personal ambition must never supersede party interest. Internal disagreements, where they exist, should be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect and established party mechanisms,” he said.
Mark acknowledged the complaints and petitions that followed the party’s recent primaries in several states and constituencies, assuring members that the leadership would address all grievances in accordance with the party’s constitution.
“I am aware of the numerous complaints, concerns and petitions arising from our party primaries across various states and constituencies. These issues are neither unusual in democratic contests nor beyond resolution within the framework of our party constitution and established procedures,” he said.
He explained that the National Working Committee would carefully review recommendations submitted by the appeal committees before taking final decisions.
According to him, the party remains focused on presenting candidates with the credibility, competence and electoral strength needed to win elections and serve Nigerians effectively.
“Our objective is clear. We must present candidates who are not only committed to the ideals of the ADC but who also possess the capacity, credibility and electoral strength to win elections and effectively serve the Nigerian people,” Mark stated.
He further urged party members across the country to strengthen the ADC’s grassroots structures and remain committed to building a formidable political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
