A pressure group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Lagos APC Youth Vanguard, has criticised a social media post by the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Digital and New Media, O’tega Ogra, over comments relating to the Lagos State House of Assembly primary election for Agege Constituency I.
Ogra had, in a post on his X handle, congratulated Hon. Gbenga Abiola, describing him as the winner of the primary election.
However, the group faulted …, arguing that it misrepresented the outcome of the exercise and could heighten tension within the party.
The convener of the group, Comrade Gbenga Osolana, said … was capable of creating confusion and urged caution in the handling of sensitive party matters on social media.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to caution his aide, stressing that public commentary on internal party processes should be handled with restraint.
According to him, such actions risk deepening divisions among party members and could affect ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party structure.
Osolana further expressed concern over what he described as increasing personalisation of party politics, urging members to prioritise unity and discipline.
He said: “This is someone whose aspiration was to be a councillor but, at the discretion of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, became Agege Local Government Sole Administrator, later served as SLG and subsequently Vice-Chairman, and now he has turned against his benefactor.”
He also alleged that Abiola had distanced himself from party activities following internal disagreements over succession arrangements in the local council, claiming his absence had been noticeable in recent party engagements.
He added: “I want to appeal to President Tinubu to caution his Senior Special Assistant, O’tega Ogra, to respect himself and avoid spreading information that could be considered inaccurate regarding the primary election in Agege Constituency I.”Osolana maintained that the outcome of the primary reflected the decision of party members, stating that former Chairman of Agege Local Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, emerged as the candidate.
He said: “It is inappropriate for an aide to the President to attempt to change the narrative through a post on X, thereby fuelling anger and tension within the party. The party members have spoken, and their decision is clear.”
He further warned against actions that could deepen internal divisions, adding that unity within the APC should be prioritised.
“As a youth, Abiola has benefited from the support of our leaders within the party structure, and his current posture is not helpful to the progress of the youth wing in politics,” he added.
The group also expressed concern over what it described as rising tensions within local party structures, urging stakeholders to resolve disputes internally rather than through public statements.
