Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has criticised the Black Stars following their 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana exited the tournament in Kansas City after Jhon Arias scored the only goal. The Black Stars failed to register a single shot on target.
Speaking on SuperSport after the match, Gyan said he was disappointed with the team’s reaction after going behind.
“The way Ghana played today, I don’t like it when you are losing and do not show any urgency. It’s frustrating. Show the world you want to win,” the country’s all-time leading scorer said.
He also questioned the team’s tactical changes during the tournament.
“In my view, we should have kept playing the way we played against England. It worked for us. If we keep changing tactics during the tournament, there is a problem,” he added.
Ghana had advanced from Group L as one of the best third placed teams after collecting four points from a win over Panama, a draw against England, and a narrow loss to Croatia.
However, they struggled to create chances against Colombia and failed to test the goalkeeper.
The defeat ended Ghana’s World Cup run with one win, one draw, and two losses. The team scored two goals and conceded three across four matches before exiting at the Round of 32 stage.
