Coalition Urges NDC To Field Credible Candidates

A coalition of support groups in the Federal Capital Territory has called on the Nigeria Democratic Congress to present credible and marketable candidates ahead of the next general elections.

The coalition, led by the Director-General of Integrity Frontiers and Save Nigeria Movement, Dr Garba Abdullah, and Mazi Uchechukwu Ugwulegbu, made the call after declaring readiness to work for the party in the coming elections.

The group commended the National Leader of the party, former Governor Seriake Dickson, for zoning the presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, describing the decision as a step that would promote unity and national progress.

Speaking on the political direction of the FCT, the coalition warned the party against fielding candidates it described as political opportunists, insisting that credibility must guide ticket allocation.

“We cannot afford to present candidates who are known betrayers or those who only seek to use the name of Peter Obi to win elections,” the group said.

They argued that youthful and tested candidates would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls, proposing activist Aisha Yesufu as a potential senatorial candidate, which they said would guarantee wider acceptance.

The coalition also endorsed Dr Anthony Ezekwugo for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency ticket, describing him as a candidate with capacity and a verifiable track record.

They further urged the party to prioritise competence and integrity in selecting flagbearers, stressing that credible leadership remains key to electoral success.

The group added that it had begun mobilising its members nationwide to register with the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the elections.
