The federal government has directed the immediate reopening of completed sections of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway to ease travel during the Eid al-Kabir celebration.
Minister of Works David Umahi gave the directive to the contractor handling the project, Infiouest Nigeria Limited, to facilitate smoother movement for people travelling for Sallah.
According to a statement issued in Abuja by the minister’s media aide, Francis Nwaze, “the decision was aimed at improving safety and reducing traffic challenges along the busy route during the festive period.”
The minister also said an earlier accident that caused obstruction on the road had been completely cleared.
He added that security personnel had been deployed to strategic points along the highway to maintain order and protect travellers throughout the holiday period.
Umahi assured commuters that measures had been put in place to ensure safer journeys during the Sallah celebrations.
