Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife have reportedly been abducted by suspected armed criminals along the Matazu axis of Katsina State.According to sources familiar with the incident, the couple were travelling to Katsina on Saturday when armed men intercepted their vehicle in Matazu Local Government Area and reportedly took them away.
A source said the retired officer’s driver escaped from the scene despite sustaining a gunshot injury during the attack.The source further disclosed that the vehicle involved in the incident, a red Peugeot 504, was later recovered and is currently at the Matazu Divisional Police Headquarters.
A security message circulating among military and security contacts also reported the incident and called for urgent attention from relevant authorities. As of the time of filing this report, neither the Katsina State Police Command nor military authorities had issued an official statement confirming the reported abduction.
Katsina State, like parts of Nigeria’s North-West region, has experienced recurring incidents of kidnapping and armed attacks by criminal groups despite ongoing security operations. Authorities have implemented various measures aimed at improving security in affected communities, but attacks and abductions continue to be reported in some areas.
