The office of former President Goodluck Jonathan has disowned a trending Instagram account operating under the handle @goodluck_ebelejonathan, describing it as fake, misleading and not authorised to represent him in any form.
In a statement issued on Friday, Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, clarified that the former president does not own, operate or maintain any personal Instagram account.
Eze warned members of the public against engaging with the account, noting that it falsely presents itself as being affiliated with Jonathan while repeatedly shifting between a fan page and impersonation of the former president.
“The account represents itself as a fan page at times and impersonates the former president most of the time,” Eze said.
He urged the public to disregard any information, statements or engagements originating from the account, stressing that it has no connection whatsoever with Jonathan or his office.
According to him, the clarification became necessary to prevent unsuspecting members of the public from being misled by the account’s activities and content.
