The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has stated that false claims regarding his potency almost cost him the royal throne.
The monarch disclosed this while addressing palace guests who gathered to celebrate the recent arrival of a set of twins welcomed by his first queen, Olori Mariam.
Oba Ogunwusi explained that prior to the birth of the twins, he faced severe scrutiny and pressure because some of his queens had left the palace without bearing children. He noted that the situation fueled widespread rumours, with critics confronting him and alleging that he had traded his fertility for wealth.
“They said I used my potency for wealth, which was why some of my wives left without having children for me,” the traditional ruler stated.
The Ooni further said that he spent eight years on the throne, facing difficulties conceiving, a period he described as a test of faith that led him to deep prayer before the eventual breakthrough.
Meanwhile, the monarch’s speech has triggered diverse reactions on digital platforms. Many observers and social media followers questioned the context of his statement, noting his existing children, including the son born to his former queen, Olori Naomi, during her time in the palace.
