Representative Ikenga Ugochinyere, has officially emerged as the consensus candidate of the Action People’s Party (APP) for the Ideato North and South federal constituency seat in the 2027 general election.

The primary election which was collated at the party’s Orie Akokwa office, which served as the collation centre, saw Ugochinyere secure a 100 percent affirmation vote from all statutory delegates drawn from both Ideato North and Ideato South Council Areas. His emergence followed a broad endorsement from local stakeholders and party faithful.

The exercise proceeded without rancour or conflict, with hundreds of delegates gathering peacefully to ratify their preferred candidate.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present throughout the process, including Electoral Officer for Ideato North, Mr. Tony Onwuasoanya, and his Ideato South counterpart, Mrs. Wendy. Both officials actively supervised the proceedings and later endorsed the outcome, confirming that the primaries were conducted in full compliance with the Electoral Act and relevant guidelines. They also commended party members for their orderly and dignified conduct.

Ugochinyere who is the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream has been vocal on national issues especially regarding opposition freedom and productivity in the country’s Petroleum sector.

Recently he cautioned the federal government against moves to deregister political parties, warning “You cannot deregister political parties a few months to elections and expect Nigerians to fold their arms. You are playing with fire.”

He also insisted that attempts to eliminate opposition parties through judicial means could recreate the political instability that contributed to the collapse of Nigeria’s First and Second Republics..
