Men On Motorcycle Shot 6 Dead In Benue

Some young men on motorcycles suspected to be cultists invaded a compound on Aliade Street and killed six residents in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, yesterday.

An eyewitness account said the assailants who stormed the street in the early hours of the day went straight to a particular house in search of their target, but ended up killing six of the occupants in the absence of their target.

Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP, Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Edet Udeme, said six people lost their lives. “Sadly 6 people lost their lives, and one is currently receiving treatment at the hospital,” she said.

Also, the chairman of Makurdi local government area, Joseph Keffi,  said the street was cordoned off by the security operatives, “What I heard is that a cult member from North Bank had a clash with his mates and ran down to stay with his friend at High Level. Unfortunately, his friends and relatives who were killed were not cult members, but because they accommodated the boy, they killed them.”

The remains of those murdered were said to have been deposited in the mortuary as the security agencies launched an investigation.
