Octogenarian Couple Assaulted By Suspected Thugs In Ibadan, Seek Justice

An elderly couple has appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to help apprehend and prosecute unidentified thugs who allegedly broke into their home, assaulted them, and destroyed valuable property.

In a save-our-souls letter sighted by Independent in Lokoja on Tuesday, the victims were identified as 90-year-old Solomon Ayoola and his 85-year-old wife. The couple was said to have suffered emotional and physical trauma following the attack on their residence in Ibadan on May 23, 2026.

According to the report, the assailants forcefully gained entry into the residence, allegedly attacked the aged couple, and vandalised parts of the property. However, no valuables were reportedly stolen during the incident, raising speculation among residents about the motive behind the attack.

The report further alleged that the incident might be connected to a lingering family dispute, although there has been no official confirmation of the claim.

Residents of the area described the attack as disturbing and inhumane, considering the advanced age of the victims. They called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain confirmation from the Oyo State Police Command were unsuccessful.
