The Transmission Company of Nigeria has commissioned a new 300MVA 330/132kV power transformer at its Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja. The commissioning ceremony was held on Sunday, with the project expected to improve electricity transmission capacity and power supply within Abuja and surrounding areas.
According to TCN, the addition of the transformer has increased the substation’s capacity from 450MVA to 750MVA, providing more power for the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to distribute to consumers.
Speaking during the event, Musa Shuaibu said the project reflects TCN’s commitment to expanding and strengthening Nigeria’s transmission network. He noted that the upgrade would support increased power delivery, improve grid stability, and enhance electricity supply to distribution centres.
The transformer project was executed under a collaborative initiative between TCN and the World Bank aimed at rehabilitating and expanding Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure. TCN said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve power supply reliability and support growing electricity demand across the country.
