Thai Police Bust Second Nigerian-Linked Romance Scam Operation In Nonthaburi

Thai authorities have uncovered a second Nigerian-linked scam operation in Nonthaburi just days after the arrest of six Nigerians allegedly involved in an AI deepfake romance scam operating from a riverside condominium in the area.

According to reports, police arrested a suspect near an ATM near Phra Nangklao Hospital, where officers reportedly recovered 42 mobile phones and 7 ATM cards during the operation.

Authorities also linked the suspect’s Thai girlfriend, identified as Aphaporn, to multiple fraud complaints. Investigators say she is facing 23 allegations related to romance scams across several provinces, including Phetchabun, Lamphun, Mukdahan and Phuket.

The latest crackdown comes amid intensified Thai police efforts to dismantle cybercrime and online fraud syndicates allegedly operating in the country. Investigators are said to be examining digital evidence recovered from the suspects as part of ongoing inquiries into the scam network.

The earlier raid in Nonthaburi reportedly exposed a group accused of using AI-generated deepfake technology to run romance scams targeting victims online. Authorities believe the syndicates used fake identities and manipulated images or videos to deceive victims into sending money.
