President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged victorious in the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State after polling 407,646 votes in the exercise conducted across the state’s 25 local government areas.
The result was announced on Saturday in Asaba by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who served as the State Coordinator and Returning Officer for the APC presidential primary election.
According to Oborevwori, the APC recorded a total membership strength of 467,815 registered members in Delta State, out of which 407,646 members were accredited and participated in the exercise.
He stated that President Tinubu secured all 407,646 votes cast, while his only challenger, Mr Stanley Osifo, polled zero votes.
Declaring the result, the governor said:
“By the powers conferred on me as the State Coordinator and Returning Officer, I hereby declare that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having polled overwhelming votes in the presidential primary election, is hereby declared winner and returned elected as the presidential candidate of the party.”
The declaration was made in the presence of security agencies, party stakeholders, members of the press, and representatives of the candidates, including President Tinubu’s agent, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, and Stanley Osifo’s agent, Mr Kelvin Ezekiel.
Also present at the collation centre was the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Sir Etekamba Udo Umoren.
Governor Oborevwori commended APC members and stakeholders for what he described as the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise across Delta State, noting that the process reflected unity within the party.
Speaking after the announcement, Delta State APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, expressed appreciation to party members for ensuring a smooth primary process.
“Today is the climax of the party primaries which started from the House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly, Governorship and Presidential Primary, which ends today,” he said.
“We thank God for the peaceful conduct of all the primary elections across Delta State.”
The presidential primary marks the conclusion of the APC’s internal electoral processes in the state ahead of the next phase of political activities leading to the general election.
