Trump said the current negotiations with Iran are “far better” and part of a more effective approach, insisting the ongoing process will prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear arms.
In a later Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump wrote that any potential agreement with Iran would be “good and proper,” unlike the 2015 nuclear deal reached under former President Barack Obama, which he claimed gave Tehran “massive amounts of cash” and “a clear and open path to a nuclear weapon.”
He said the current negotiations are “the exact opposite,” while noting that the deal has not yet been fully negotiated.
Trump also dismissed critics of the talks, saying they “know nothing about” the process, and added that, unlike previous administrations, he does not “make bad deals.”
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported on Sunday that disagreements remain unresolved between Iran and the US over several provisions of a potential understanding.
“Despite some talks held today, the US obstruction of some provisions of the understanding, including the issue of releasing Iran’s frozen assets, is still ongoing,” the semi-official Tasnim news agency said.
