Wakama Community in Nasarawa North witnessed a large turnout on Thursday as residents and supporters welcomed the campaign team of Rt. Hon. David Emmanuel Ombugadu during a grassroots engagement ahead of the forthcoming senatorial bye-election.
The visit provided an opportunity for community members to highlight pressing development challenges, particularly the lack of access to clean and potable water.
Speaking during the gathering, the Youth Chairman of Wakama Community, Anyabuga Auta, appealed for urgent intervention to address the long-standing water shortage affecting residents.
“We have suffered for too long without reliable access to potable water. Our people deserve urgent action, not promises that delay,” he said.
Responding to the appeal, Ombugadu directed his team of engineers to commence plans for the construction of three motorised boreholes in the community, with work expected to begin on Monday.
“I do not need to be a senator before I provide water for the people of Wakama,” Ombugadu said. “The work will commence on Monday. The chairman and all those involved should kindly follow me to my house so we can map out the locations for immediate intervention.”
The announcement was greeted with excitement by residents, many of whom described the intervention as a practical response to one of the community’s most pressing needs.
Wakama is regarded as a politically significant community within Nasarawa North, making the visit an important stop as political activities intensify ahead of the bye-election.
Community leaders at the event stressed that beyond political affiliations, residents would continue to support leaders who demonstrate commitment to addressing critical infrastructure and social needs.
Ombugadu’s campaign team is expected to continue consultations and voter engagement activities across Wamba and Akwanga local government areas in the coming days as preparations for the poll gather momentum.
