Twelve secondary schools have qualified for the semi-final stage of the 2026 Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) Tax Club Quiz Competition after 87 schools participated in the preliminary rounds of the annual academic contest.
The preliminary stages of the competition, organised by KW-IRS in collaboration with the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, were conducted through an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) format between Tuesday, June 23, and Friday, June 26, 2026.
According to KW-IRS, 90 schools registered for the competition, while 87 successfully participated in the first round of the online assessment. Following the first stage, 36 schools progressed to the second round, from which the 12 semi-finalists emerged.
The successful schools were selected across the three senatorial districts of the state.
From Kwara Central, the qualifiers are Government Day Secondary School Oja Gboro, Saint Anthony’s Senior Secondary School, Ebenezer High School, and Ar-Raheem International College.
Representing Kwara South are Ansar-u-deen College, Offa; Oro Grammar School, Oro; Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo; and Hubbullah Islamic Model School, Omu-Aran.
The Kwara North representatives are Government Secondary School, Lafiagi; Baptist Model High School, Kaiama; Government Secondary School, Ilesha-Baruba; and Lafiagi Senior Secondary School.
The Convener of the KW-IRS Tax Club Advocacy Committee (TACAC), Funmilola Oguntunbi, said the improved Tax Club Online platform contributed to the smooth administration of the competition by enhancing transparency, efficiency and ease of participation.
She said the adoption of technology reflected the agency’s commitment to promoting innovation in the conduct of the annual competition.
Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Roseline Ayansola and Mr Imam Toyin Olanrewaju, who monitored the exercise and participated in the analysis of results, commended the participating schools for their commitment.
The Executive Chairman of KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, also congratulated the 12 schools that advanced to the semi-final stage, while acknowledging the contributions of principals, teachers and Local Government Area coordinators towards the success of the exercise.
The semi-final stage is expected to hold virtually in October 2026, while the six best-performing schools will advance to the grand finale in November, where they will compete for the top prize of N2.5 million.
