Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a notorious armed robbery suspect, Austine Emenike, popularly known as “Oyibo,” recovering several weapons and live ammunition from his hideout during an intelligence-led operation in Aluu community.
The operation, carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, forms part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime across the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed that operatives recovered one locally made pistol, four single-barrelled guns, and five live cartridges from the suspect’s hideout.
The Command added that preliminary investigations indicate Emenike is linked to a broader armed robbery syndicate operating in Rivers State. Detectives are currently pursuing leads to apprehend other members of the gang, while investigations continue to determine the full scope of the group’s criminal activities.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, praised their courage, professionalism and dedication to duty, describing the arrest as another significant breakthrough in the Command’s sustained campaign against violent crime.
“This arrest and the recovery of these dangerous weapons underscore our resolve to proactively tackle violent crime and protect the law-abiding people of Rivers State.
“We will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations until criminal elements are completely rooted out,” the Commissioner said.
CP Adepoju also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police, stressing that public cooperation and credible intelligence remain critical to achieving lasting security across Rivers State.
