NSCDC urges FCT residents to participate actively in protecting public infrastructure

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, on Monday urged residents to actively participate in protecting public infrastructure.

NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that government cannot safeguard critical national assets alone.

He noted that security is every Nigerian’s responsibility and harped on the need for residents to have a sense of collective ownership.

“Security operations are intelligence-driven, therefore, we rely heavily on credible information from members of the public.

“Whenever residents notice suspicious movements or activities around critical infrastructure, such information should promptly be reported to the NSCDC,” he said.

He said that because issues of vandalism pose serious threat to national development, the corps is focused on tackling same diligently.

“As the lead agency responsible for protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), we are always ready to respond swiftly once credible information is received,” he said.

According to Odumosu, the Federal Government through the FCT Minister, Mr Nysom Wike, is investing significantly in upgrading infrastructures across the territory.

“We cannot allow criminal elements to sabotage these efforts by destroying public facilities.

“I want to make it clear that the FCT is no longer a ‘safe haven’ for vandals; They should either desist from these criminal acts or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

“We are maintaining 24-hour surveillance across the territory, and anyone apprehended for vandalising public infrastructure will be prosecuted,” he said

Odumosu noted that the corps does not tolerate illegal operations, adding that it will not compromise on its stand. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
