Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has expressed confidence that Nigerians will re-elect President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general election, citing the administration’s economic policies and increased funding to states.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, Eno said Tinubu’s government has provided state governments with the financial resources needed to execute critical development projects.
According to the governor, Akwa Ibom has benefited from the improved funding, enabling his administration to undertake major infrastructure and social welfare initiatives, including the construction of over 1,300 kilometres of roads, 458 compassionate homes, support programmes for 12,000 elderly citizens, hospitals across the state’s 31 local government areas, and solar-powered schools.
“President Tinubu has made funding available for us to execute all these projects. We have built roads, compassionate homes, hospitals, and modern schools because the resources are there,” Eno said.
He also pointed to the administration’s tax reforms, the relative stability of the naira against the dollar, and improvements in Nigeria’s foreign reserves as reasons Nigerians should support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“Look at the tax reforms and the benefits to the people. Look at the exchange rate compared to when he assumed office, and look at our foreign reserves.
“There are enough reasons for Akwa Ibom people and Nigerians to support him to complete the work he has started,” he stated.
When asked whether he would actively work for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, Eno said Akwa Ibom was firmly behind the President and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“We trust God, and with God on our side, Akwa Ibom is for Tinubu and the APC,” he said.
The governor highlighted the APC’s political strength in the state, noting that the party controls the majority of elective positions, including the governorship, Senate seats, House of Assembly seats, local government chairmanships, and councillorship positions.
According to him, the party’s widespread presence across the state gives it a strong grassroots structure ahead of future elections.
“We are on the ground and working. These are the people in the field mobilising support. I respect every political party, and the more options voters have, the better, but I have no fears because we are firmly on the ground,” Eno added.
