Popular music executive and Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy has opened up about the emotional struggles he faced as a teenager, revealing how constant rejection from girls during his secondary school years affected his confidence and self-worth.
Speaking during an appearance on the Keeping It Real With Jima podcast, the celebrated producer shared that he battled low self-esteem while growing up and often found it difficult to gain the attention of girls he admired.
According to Don Jazzy, the repeated rejections left a deep impression on him, with the emotional effects lingering long after his school days were over.
Reflecting on that period of his life, he explained that after finding success in the music industry, he felt the need to confront those painful memories and seek personal closure.
The music mogul disclosed that he later tried to reconnect with some of the women who had turned him down in school as part of his journey toward healing and rebuilding his confidence. However, many of them had already settled down and started families by the time he reached out.
In his words:
“I wasn’t good-looking during my secondary school days. Thank God for music because back then I was constantly being rejected by girls. But after I became successful, I went back to look for all the girls who rejected me. But almost all of them were already married…”
Don Jazzy added that reconnecting with some of his former schoolmates and reflecting on how far he had come in life helped him move past the hurt of those early experiences and gain a renewed sense of self-confidence.
