All Progressive Congress (APC) has reclaimed the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat after its candidate, Halilu Envuluanza, was declared winner of Saturday’s by-election.
The announcement was made on Sunday in Akwanga by Prof. Aminu Ali, the Returning Officer appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Akwanga, headquarters of Akwanga Local Government Area, served as the collation center for the poll.
According to Prof. Ali, Envuluanza secured a decisive victory with 45,362 votes.
His closest challenger, Labaran Maku of the Labour Party, garnered 12,931 votes, while Emmanuel David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party finished third with 11,570 votes.
“That Halilu Envuluanza of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the Returning Officer stated.

INEC’s breakdown showed that Nasarawa North has 332,810 registered voters. Of that number, 80,363 were accredited for the exercise.
The commission recorded 75,705 valid votes, with 927 ballots rejected, bringing total votes cast to 76,632.
The by-election became necessary following the death of Sen. Godiya Akwashiki earlier this year, which left the district’s seat vacant at the National Assembly.
With INEC’s declaration, Envuluanza will now represent Nasarawa North in the Senate.
