ASUU Threatens Oyo, Kwara Govts With Indefinite Strike Over Failure To Implement 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ibadan Zone comprising University of Ibadan, Ibadan; University of Ilorin, Ilorin; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso; Osun State University, Osogbo; Kwara State University, Malete and Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo have urged the Oyo and Kwara states government to implement 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement to do so as a matter of urgency.
They maintained that failure to do so with leave them with no option than to mobilise their members to go for Indefinite strike.
They made the appeal on Tuesday, at the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, during a press conference addressed by the ASUU Zonal Coordinator, Biodun Olaniran to press home the demands.

Olaniran explained that while all federal universities and no fewer than ten state universities nationwide including Osun state University have fully implemented the Agreement, including the payment of arrears, the other three state Universities are yet to enjoy the signed agreement.
The affected Universities are Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education and Kwara State University Malete.
Olaniran disclosed that failure of the three Universities mentioned have plunged the staff into abject poverty to the extent that some of them could not afford ride their cars due to increment in pump price, afford to pay house rent, even school fees of their children.
According to him, “We must report that while all federal universities and no fewer than ten State universities nationwide have fully implemented the Agreement, including the payment of arrears, these state Universities has Osun State University as one of them while the other three state Universities are yet to enjoy the signed agreement namely Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education and Kwara State University Malete.
“This is not merely regrettable; it is provocative and unjust. Our members in these institutions are being shortchanged by the Governors and Visitors of Oyo and Kwara States, who have failed to provide the financial backing required for full implementation of the signed agreement.
“However, the role of Governing Councils of these State Universities must be commended for their efforts to address the implementation of the agreement.
“The Ibadan Zone views the continued refusal to implement the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement at these three Universities with serious concern. Patience Exhausted, Mobilisation Begun. The patience of our Congresses in these universities has been exhausted. For six months, our members have awaited concrete steps toward the implementation of the Agreement.
“We therefore inform you that our Congresses in the affected State universities have commenced full mobilization for a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike, in response to the persistent failure of the State Governments involved to honour the Agreement.
“We demand, unequivocally, that the next salary of our members in these universities must reflect the CATA component and all other allowances stipulated in the Agreement; All accrued arrears from January 2026 must be paid in full, without delay.
“We state, with all sense of responsibility, that any failure or further prevarication by the State Governments will inevitably provoke a total, comprehensive, and indefinite industrial action.
“ASUU remains committed to industrial peace in our universities. However, peace without justice is a mirage. The only path to lasting harmony is the immediate and full implementation of the Agreement. We therefore appeal to the Governors of Oyo and Kwara States to act now, before our universities are shut down”.
