The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has paid a courtesy visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, the Asagba of Asaba.
The visit was part of ongoing stakeholder engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Police and traditional institutions in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police on community partnership and inclusive policing.
Edafe Bright, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Police Command, who disclosed this in a statement, said that during the visit, the Commissioner of Police expressed profound appreciation to the Asagba for the warm reception and support extended to him since his assumption of duty as Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.
He noted that traditional institutions remain critical partners in maintaining peace and security and assured the Royal Father of the Command’s readiness to sustain a cordial and productive relationship with the palace.
The CP reiterated that the primary mandate of the Nigeria Police Force is the protection of lives and property and pledged his commitment to ensuring that the command continues to discharge this responsibility professionally and effectively. He further emphasised that the Force maintains a firm disciplinary mechanism to ensure accountability and professionalism among its personnel.
The Commissioner of Police stated that the Command is committed to working closely with the palace, community leaders, and other stakeholders to reduce crime to the barest minimum across Asaba and the State at large.
He stressed that effective policing thrives on cooperation, trust, and the timely exchange of information between the Police and the communities they serve.
In his response, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, congratulated CP Oyeniyi on his appointment and assured him of the palace’s continued support and cooperation.
The royal father noted that the palace would maintain the cordial working relationship it enjoyed with previous Commissioners of Police.
He expressed his readiness to collaborate with the new leadership of the Command in advancing peace and security within the kingdom.
The Asagba emphasised the importance of peace to the growth and prosperity of Asaba, stating that “peace is the greatest industry in Asaba, and we are prepared to do everything to keep it that way.” He further advocated for community policing, noting that crime is best addressed at the local level through active community participation, intelligence sharing, and sustained partnership between the Police and residents.
The visit featured discussions on security concerns within the kingdom, strategies for enhancing public safety, and measures for strengthening the relationship between the Police and the people.
