The Delta State Police Command said that sequel to the ongoing state-wide enforcement of traffic laws in the State, it arrested 26 vehicles and achieved 23 convictions for various traffic-related offences following the arraignment of offenders before the Mobile Court provided by the State Government for immediate adjudication.
It revealed that the enforcement exercise, which was being conducted in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and the commitment of the Command to promoting road safety, public order, and compliance with extant laws, was also aimed at addressing traffic violations that endanger lives and compromise the orderly use of the roads.
Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Command who confirmed this said that at the conclusion of the court proceedings, 23 offenders were convicted and ordered to pay fines commensurate with their respective offences, while 3 others were discharged and acquitted.
Edafe, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said the outcome reflected the Command’s determination to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations through lawful and transparent enforcement measures.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, had reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain the exercise across the State.
The CP warned that violators of traffic laws would continue to face appropriate legal sanctions.
He urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and documented to comply with all traffic regulations at all times.
