Ebu Community on the Brink Of Developmental Isolation, Appeals To Oborevwori For Urgent Road Intervention

Residents of Ebu Kingdom in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State have renewed their appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to urgently intervene in the construction of the long-abandoned Ebu–Ezi–Ukala Road, describing it as the lifeline needed to reconnect the agrarian community to the mainstream of economic and social development.

Ebu, widely regarded as one of the major food-producing communities in the Delta North Senatorial District, has for decades remained largely isolated due to poor road infrastructure. Despite its significant contribution to agricultural production in the state, residents lament that the community has continued to suffer neglect and abandonment, with little or no visible government presence.

Community leaders and residents say the deplorable state of access roads has hindered economic growth, discouraged investment, and made transportation of agricultural produce to neighboring communities and urban markets increasingly difficult.

According to concerned stakeholders, the Ebu–Ezi–Ukala Road was once a strategic economic corridor linking Ebu to neighboring communities such as Ezi and Ukala. The road facilitated trade, social interaction, and the movement of farm produce across the area. However, years of neglect have rendered the road virtually impassable, cutting off the community from its traditional economic partners.

Today, the only major route into Ebu is through a deteriorating federal road that passes through neighboring Edo State, a situation residents describe as both inconvenient and detrimental to the community’s growth and development.

Many residents argue that the lack of a functional road network has contributed significantly to the slow pace of development in the area, affecting access to healthcare, education, commerce, and other essential services.

Speaking on the condition of the community, several residents expressed hope that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration would prioritize the reconstruction of the Ebu–Ezi–Ukala Road as part of its infrastructure development agenda.

They noted that the project would not only reconnect Ebu to neighboring communities but would also unlock vast agricultural and economic opportunities, boost trade, improve transportation, and attract both public and private investments to the area.

The construction of the Ebu–Ezi–Ukala Road will open up our community, enhance agricultural productivity, and bring development closer to our people, a community stakeholder stated.

Residents believe that given Ebu’s status as one of the food baskets of Delta North, investing in critical infrastructure such as roads would significantly contribute to food security, rural development, and economic prosperity in the state.

As the people continue to await government intervention, their message remains clear: the reconstruction of the Ebu–Ezi–Ukala Road is not merely a road project but a gateway to the economic revival and sustainable development of Ebu Kingdom.

For the people of Ebu, the road represents hope, progress, and a long-awaited connection to the map of development in Delta State.
