Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has advised the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), Prof. Chris Ekong, to concentrate on advancing the institution rather than investigating the administration of his predecessor.The governor gave the advice while receiving the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Dr. Muiz Banire, and members of the institution’s management team in Uyo.
Eno urged the new vice-chancellor to be magnanimous in leadership and remain focused on strengthening the university’s academic standards and overall development. According to the governor, dwelling on past administrations could distract the new leadership from its primary responsibilities.
He described Prof. Ekong as a seasoned academic and administrator whose experience in public service and higher education positions him to lead the university effectively. “You have the experience and capacity to deliver on this assignment. We believe you can build on the university’s achievements and further strengthen its reputation for academic excellence,” Eno said.
The governor, an alumnus of the institution, also commended the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Adewumi, for overseeing a smooth transition process that culminated in the appointment of a substantive vice-chancellor. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the university through continued collaboration and development initiatives.
Earlier, Dr. Banire described Prof. Ekong as an experienced leader with a record of public service and institutional development. He also appreciated the governor for ongoing intervention projects and support for the university. In his remarks, Prof. Ekong pledged to uphold the institution’s academic standards and justify the confidence reposed in him by the university community and stakeholders.
