Speaker of Nigeria Youth Parliament, Aliyu Idris Zakari, has commended Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, for his commitment to youth friendly initiatives geared towards youth development and inclusion.
The Speaker, in a statement sent to our correspondent in Gombe, noted that Katsina State has continued to distinguish itself as a leader in youth empowerment and participation under the Governor’s administration.
He recalled the Governor’s support in hosting a plenary sitting of the Nigerian Youth Parliament in Katsina State stressing that, the initiative has strengthened youth legislative engagement and elevated the State’s profile nationally.
The statement also indicated that the State Government had concluded plans to launch a comprehensive Leadership and Mentorship Programme alongside the establishment of the Katsina State Youth Parliament (KSYP) as part of the Government’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of visionary, responsible, and public-spirited leaders across the state.
According to him, “The Leadership and Mentorship Programme and the Katsina State Youth Parliament, represent a bold and sustainable investment in the future of our young people.
“Beyond creating opportunities for participation, these initiatives are designed to raise a generation of informed, competent, and visionary leaders who will contribute meaningfully to governance, policymaking, and national development,” he pointedout.
The Leadership and Mentorship Programme, which forms a central pillar of the initiative, is designed to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, values, and practical exposure required for effective leadership, public service, civic engagement, and community development.
Through structured mentorship sessions, capacity-building workshops, policy dialogues, and direct engagement with experienced leaders and policymakers, participants will gain valuable insights into governance and leadership at all levels.
Complementing the programme is the proposed Katsina State Youth Parliament, a legislative leadership platform modeled after the Katsina State House of Assembly and is expected to provide a structured avenue for young people to engage in legislative processes, develop advocacy and policymaking skills, and contribute meaningfully to discussions and decisions affecting their communities and the state at large.
To ensure the successful implementation of both initiatives in line with national and international best practices, the State Government, through the Programme Coordinator, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari, Speaker, NYP, has engaged A1 Efficient Consult Limited and Lexmora Policy and Advocacy Initiative.
Commenting on the initiative, the Katsina State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Engr. Surajo Yazid Abukur, explained that the initiative reflects the commitment of Governor Dikko Radda’s, empowerment programmes for young people through leadership development, mentorship, civic engagement, and active participation in governance.
According to him, “The Leadership and Mentorship Programme represents a transformative investment in the future of Katsina State.
“Coupled with the Youth Parliament, this initiative offers one of the strongest platforms for youth empowerment and inclusion in governance,” the Commissioner stated.
The statement indicated that the implementation process will include a transparent selection of participants from the 34 State Constituencies, intensive leadership and legislative training sessions, mentorship engagements with distinguished leaders from the public and private sectors, and institutional study visits to key Government institutions within and outside Katsina State to provide practical governance exposure.
With the launch of the Leadership & Mentorship Programme and the establishment of the Katsina State Youth Parliament, Katsina State is set to become a leading model for youth leadership development, civic participation, and inclusive governance, while creating a sustainable pipeline of future leaders committed to the progress and development.
