A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader has warned that tensions between Iran and the United States could persist unless Washington changes its approach towards Tehran and takes Iranian interests into account.
In an interview with CNN on Thursday, Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to the Supreme Leader, said Iran would respond more forcefully to any future US military action and suggested that the future course of the conflict depends largely on decisions made in Washington.
“The war with the United States will continue unless Washington respects Tehran’s interests,” Mokhber said.
He added that Iran would not retreat from what it considers its core national interests.
“US President Donald Trump must realize that the Islamic Republic will not back down and will not compromise its independence and national interests. We will make the aggressors regret their actions.”

Asked whether he believed hostilities between Iran and the United States could resume, Mokhber said responsibility for that outcome lay with Washington.
“It’s in their hands. If they respect Iran’s interests and act accordingly, the war will end; otherwise, it will continue.”
His remarks came amid continuing uncertainty surrounding efforts to secure a broader agreement between Tehran and Washington following months of military confrontation and diplomatic negotiations.
Separately, Iranian Defence Ministry spokesperson Reza Talaei-Nik said reducing regional tensions requires adherence to existing ceasefire arrangements and an end to military escalation across multiple fronts.
According to remarks reported by Iran International, Talaei-Nik said continued conflict would not help resolve the region’s crises and reiterated Iran’s commitment to defending its security interests.
“The experiences of recent wars have proven that the Iranian armed forces will not back down in the face of pressure or threats,” he said.
Talaei-Nik added that Iran’s military remains at a high state of readiness and warned that any violation of what Tehran considers its “red lines” would be met with a strong response.
